Expat life in Vietnam

Why Vietnam? Why Not!

When I decided to move to Vietnam in 2017 many people asked the question, WHY VIETNAM? And while the obvious answer is, WHY NOT! That answer is also not doing the country justice.

I decided to locate myself in the south of Vietnam due to personal connections with some friends and also the warmer climate after 17 years dropping in to QLD, Australia. Also i'm in the center of HCMC or Saigon. I like the sounds and hustle of cities and always have, New York being another favorite destination.

Many expats choose District 2 to be closer with other expats and also the international schools and I can see why they do that, however for me personally- District 1 has everything one needs and I can visit D2 and come back to D1, not the other way round.

City views are the pinnacle of real estate all over the world, and even here we have a premium on apartments that have the coveted "Bitexco view" which is spectacular in the evenings. The fact that this often doubles up with riverside action is also a huge benefit.

Food is another major reason for me choosing Vietnam, I enjoy the cuisine, always enjoying a bit of spice, the differences in the foods by region is fascinating and reminds me of India in that respect. Whenever I have visited other regions within Vietnam I always try to pluck up the courage to try the local speciality. When in Sa Pa this was horse guts in a hotpot !! and YES i did try it.

I have taken to riding the motorbike around everywhere and encourage everybody else to do so, I have also taken the motorbike test and now have the Vietnamese bike licence, again I would encourage you get a translator if neccesary to assist any expat who may be here long term to help them achieve this for peace of mind when out and about.

Cost of living also is a major reason for several expats, especially in the older demographic, one can manage comfortably in Vietnam on a pension in a nice clean apartment and can get around with ease and eat and drink well. Again the diversity of cuisines where you can pay several million dong for a meal or can go 100m up the road and pay 50.000 vnd. Choice is what people want and choice is available in abundance in this country from, FOOD, ACCOMMODATION, TRAVEL and LIFESTYLE.

If you're thinking of an expat life or change then stick Vietnam at the top of your list. Let COME and ENJOY LIFE!

Cheers!

Jimmy
